Competition Entry

If anyone 'likes' the Skulduggery Pleasant facebook group, then you'll know that there is competition (ending today) to draw a Tanith Low themed book cover. Unfortunately I don't have any of my proper drawing or painting supplies with me, and had to do it in a rush, since I've been neck-deep in deadlines since yesterday - however! I was able to put together a picture which isn't half-bad. I know it won't win, because I've seen some fan work on deviant art that is just crazy-good, but I thought I might as well enter because it'd be fun to plan out what to include and how to draw it. So here's my entry...

The drawing is only a quarter of an A4 page in size because it was, originally, only mean to be a sketch for the lay out of the final piece. However, I ended up drawing the whole thing...in a 1/4 of A4...with a frickin' mechanical/propelling pencil (basically, a clicky pencil). So there's not a whole lot of detail, and I couldn't do any inking, but I'm fairly pleased with how it turned out.

Now... [SPOILER ALERT]
If you've read the series, you'll know that a Remnant takes over Tanith's body, which is what the black creature wrapped around her body is. Also, the face in the clouds is meant to represent the real Tanith looking on in horror at how Remnant-Tanith is acting.

Anyhoo, I just wanted to upload the picture, so hope you like it! Feel free to comment.
I'll probably put up some more pictures of my artwork after I've scanned them in - so you can look forward to something artistic actually being posted on The Blog once again!

Anyway, it's now 2am, so...

G'night!

Afternoon!

This is just going to be a quick note because I'm fairly busy this week (deadlines and moving out of halls for Easter). Sorry!

I don't think I've mentioned it before but I hate giving presentations. Like, hate them. With a burning, unflinching passion. I don't rightly know why, to be completely honest. I'm fine when it's a group discussion, even though it's the same set-up as everyone's eyes are on you. But presentations? Yeah, they can go die.

As you've probably already guessed, I had to do a presentation (I'm a university student, for anyone who doesn't know). The actual topic was brilliant:

‘Federal intervention and not Civil Rights protest brought the Civil Rights revolution.’ Discuss.

I've always been interested in the Civil Rights Movement and was pleased that I was able to do a presentation on something I already have an interest in and didn't mind researching. I mean, I knew my material and understood it, and actually wanted to present it. You'd think that'd help, wouldn't you? Yeah, well, you're wrong.

Regardless of how well I know my material, and how interesting I find it, I'm still a stuttering ball of nervousness whenever I have to stand up in front of class. You would never think that I'd been in drama groups when I was younger and actually love acting, which is practically the same thing. Grr. Luckily I wasn't alone, as I was in a group of three, and I only presented for a third of the time.

Anyway, apart from mentioning this in order to vent my hatred, I wanted to explain the back story to a picture I'm putting on The Blog. When we were researching Martin Luther King Jr., we came across a quote which I instantly fell in love with...

(I made this. Quite chuffed, not gonna lie)

I just thought that everyone should see this quote at least once in their lives because it's one of those quotes that stays with you, and can actually take something away from. Plus, it's so goddamn inspirational, which is good.

However, researching King meant that I got the Epic Rap Battle between him and Gandhi stuck in my head (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6G6CZT7h4k), which wasn't good. And by the time the presentation came around, I had Barack Obama vs. Mitt Romney (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dX_1B0w7Hzc) stuck in my head, and so kept on singing "I'm the Head of State, you're like a head of cabbage.." under my breath. Not good.

By the way, if you haven't heard of the Epic Rap Battles of History, I would definitely recommend watching them - they're utter genius. But beware, you'll probably get hooked.

On another matter, my blog is kinda strange. Although it's meant to be a creative writing blog, it's a nothingy blog at the moment, because I haven't really been posting much of my work. I've got my Easter break coming up, which is brilliant because I've been wanting to write properly for a while, but just haven't found the time. I use Microsoft OneNote, so whenever I have a moment of inspiration I can easily jot down whatever it is. But it's backing up really badly. I have so many tabs, and tabs within tabs that it's like tab-ception. And oh god, the spider diagrams (or whatever it's politically correct to call them this week). I have waaaay too many, and they're all jumbled. So I'm kinda dreading but really looking forward to sorting it all out.

Anyway, this 'quick note' has actually tripled in size from what I originally wanted it to be, so I ought to go and do some work. (Oh history essay, how I detest thee)

So, cheerio until my next update! I shall leave you with the ever-wise Martin Luther King Jr....
